City / Island is an ever-growing photography project started in 2010, seeking to represent my idea of youth and escapism. The project is a visual link between the riot of adolescence and the void one can face at the end of it. The photographs, with their apparent stillness, step away from a real-time recording of the quotidian. They strive to provide a sense of contemplation and connectedness amid the chaos. I consider all of the images to be revealing portraits, whether they frame a person, a landscape or an object. They all talk to each other and generate a new alternative territory. City / Island blends analogand digital, formats and printing techniques, constructed narratives and intimate documentation. Read the accompanying essay by Victoire de Changy here (French only).
